Window,window treatment,added style to home.
Whether you are looking for window treatments in order to change the look of your home or in order to have better access and covering for your windows, there are two main things to consider. First, you want to think about the practicality of the window treatment, and, second, you want to think about the style you are adding to your home.
Lighting is important to keep in mind. If you want to block the light, you will want to stick with heavier materials like dark heavy drapes or wood shades, blinds, or shutters. If you want lots of light, you will want to use thinner materials like sheer curtain panels.
Curtains and Drapes
Curtains and drapes are made of fabric (such as cotton, silk, and polyester to name a few) and are hung from a rod. They can either come as larger one piece curtains or in panels (which are simply half curtains). Curtains and drapes are a great choice if you are looking to add color or style to a room since they can come in all different types of fabric. They can also either darken or lighten up a room depending on the fabric you choose.
Shades, Blinds and Shutters
Shades, blinds and shutters can be made out of a variety of materials such as wood, plastic, or fabric. Window blinds are made of slats that can either run vertically or horizontally. Shades and blinds are great choices for sliding glass doors or on windows that require accessibility because they often work on draw string and can be easy to open and close when needed. Shutters are also great for accessibility because they can often be opened easily with one hand. With shades, blinds, and shutters you are able to allow light to flow in when wanted and block light when it is not wanted because of the easiness to open and close. These window treatments usually need to be customized to fit your window or door; though, window treatment stores often have generic sizes that fit the majority of the windows for most homes.
Decorative Ideas
Changing out your window treatment is an easy way create a new look for your room and a great way to change your look from season to season. Window treatments can be mixed; for instance curtains and blinds can be put together in order to create a decorative look while also maintaining access for opening and closing. You can also add style by adding decorative valances or swags.
When thinking about your window treatment, remember to be creative but also keep in mind how you will need to access the window.
